Her Silent Bones, Pamela Fagan Hutchins

Bookouture, January 16, 2024, 412 pages

I recently downloaded a new app that gives me access to Advance Reader Copies. Unfortunately, my first foray into that didn't go so well and I was quickly disappointed (see my review here). As they say, however, first is the worst, second is the best. That was my experience with NetGalley! My second attempt yieled an awesome new series by Pamela Fagan Hutchins and I quickly devoured Book 1, completely raptured by Delaney Pace, her homecoming and troubled past. I highly recommend this title, which I enjoyed to and from work via audiobook.

Delaney Pace heads back to her hometown where she witnessed her father's murder as a young child and is confronted with more tragedy upon the death of her estranged brother, his beautiful wife and now a grisly murder on her first day back on the job. And that's just the beginning! There is clearly more to tell about Delaney's past and Hutchins does such a good job not overdoing the back story so we can focus on the crazy course of events unfolding in this new world. I know there is more to come in Books 2 and 3 about Delaney, her new partner, Leo, and the hijinks Delaney is in for, as trouble seems to follow her wherever she goes. I am hooked and thrilled to have a new series in which to envelope myself as we settle in for the dark days of winter, and to be accompanied by such an interesting character as Delaney.

These books will be released to the public in mid-January. Definitely consider adding this to your to be read pile or as a book club pick, and be sure to grab all three books as you'll be hooked from the start and need to know all that is in store for Delaney. Hopefully we won't stop at just three, because these characters are great, my favorite being Delaney, of course, with Skeeter as a close second. Read the novel (or listen!) and let me know your favorite character!

To read or not to read: DEFINITELY READ!

We've just launched a new Book Club at our senior center. We're getting together today to discuss "The Tattooist of Auschwitz". I'd originally planned "None of this is True" for book 2 (GREAT BOOK recommendation - thanks!) but it doesn't look like that will be possible at this time - availability issues. I saw your blog post for "Her Silent Bones" and I'm curious if you feel it would be an appropriate read for us. Any additional feedback it that regard would be welcome!

There's a pretty gruesome scene in the beginning and a slight instance of a VERY weird plot twist that luckily only lasts a few paragraphs. I'm not sure I'd select that one for seniors. What about Kristin Hannah's The Great Alone? It's lovely but long - I haven't reviewed it on here yet. I'm waiting to read The Women which is supposed to come out next year. I also absolutely ADORED Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt.
