None of This is True, Lisa Jewell
Atria Books, August 8, 2023
384 Pages
Synopsis:
A rising-star podcaster meets a seemingly innocent person while both are celebrating
their 40th birthdays. The two women could not be more different, but one takes advantage of the other and their worlds collide in this fast-paced, psychologically intense novel from Lisa Jewell that has the reader guessing about everyone’s intentions with each page turned.
Buckle your seat belts and hang on for this rollercoaster of a story where there is A LOT happening all at once and nothing is quite what it seems. I could not put this down and finished it off in three days while working full time, mothering two kids, and doing all the adulting that comes with this digital age. Jewell had me on my toes sleuthing through the lines and lies to figure out what exactly my theory was and who I should be rooting for. This novel reminded me of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl and A.J. Finn’s The Woman in the Window sprinkled with some The Girl on the Train from Paula Hawkins. All are gripping psychological thrillers that make for suspenseful, tense reading but a real “Wow, I can’t believe I’ve just survived all of that!” when the final page is turned. Hoping for a sequel because I’m not sure Josie, Alix, Roxy or Erin are finished telling their stories, or that of Brooke.
Like Alix with Josie, we as readers are unsettled but uniquely intrigued and mesmerized through excellent story telling and a dark, sinister, air. This novel is great for book clubs, quick reads, beach reads, and commuting reads. I assure you, your neighbor has heard of it or read it and you should, too, so you can gush over every little detail through these turns and twists.
